Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that starting an exercise program may be intimidating when you don’t know what to expect, so we answered some of your more common questions here. Please feel free to reach out to us for any other questions you might have.
How many days a week should I work out?
Ideally, you would train with us three times a week for about 45 minutes each time. In most cases, that’s plenty of time for a good workout, but it really depends on your desired outcomes. In some situations, depending on your goals, it might be best to train with us four to five times per week. These are decisions we can help you with during our introductory meeting.
What should I wear?
Clothing:
Most clients find that athletic or comfortable clothing that allows complete freedom of movement and allows you to stay cool is most convenient. Most clients will wear a comfortable t-shirt and loose shorts. Women will want a good support or athletic bra.
Footwear:
Investing in great fitting shoes will make a big difference in your comfort and balance. Look for athletic shoes with a non-slip sole (no flats, heels, sandals, flip-flops, slides, or hiking boots); athletic footwear stores can help you make a selection based on your foot shape, gait, and use. Some clients find it easier to have a pair they use only for their workouts and keep them in the car for convenience. To keep the gym and area floor clean, shoes with dirt, mud, or grass will not be allowed on the studio floor so please plan accordingly.
What should I bring with me?
A water bottle (that closes – no open containers), workout hand towel (if you sweat), and clean athletic shoes.
How early should I arrive before my class or personal training time?
We always to try to start and end on time, so usually five to ten minutes before classes is sufficient (try not to arrive any earlier than 10 minutes before the scheduled time to respect the time of other classes or private training sessions).
Personal Training sessions will start at the time they are scheduled; if you are running late, you will miss out on that time and the session will end at the normal scheduled time.
How long are the classes and personal training sessions?
All classes and training sessions are approximately 45 minutes with the exception of Beginning Tai Chi which is 30 minutes in length.
What can I expect in the classes?
All classes will begin with a warm-up and description/demonstration of the exercises that are going to be performed. I will usually give some choices on how to make each exercise easier or more difficult. Modifications can be made if you have other conditions that prevent you from doing certain exercises due to orthopedic or medical situations – just bring it to my attention before class. Water breaks will be taken at different opportunities during the class, but feel free to grab a drink or take a break anytime you need one; you know your body best!
Will the classes be fun?
We want you to enjoy your fitness experiences so socializing, joking, and talking are encouraged as long as you’re doing the workout and paying attention; remember, people are there to get a good workout!
